Where this problem welcomes despair, a hopelessness in light of the inability to fully understand the composition of the other, it also brings with it a challenge that has been subliminally acknowledged and answered since humanity’s outset in reality. Through the use of varying mediums, people have attempted to divulge and understand perspectives—reading, writing and viewing to no end in the attempt to enter into relation. It is in the act of relating one's self to that of another, comparing experiences and reflections, that we are best able to grasp reality. Relation is the means by which one’s personhood is drawn closer to that of another; though they will never intertwine, the understanding and companionship that is achieved allows for deeper revelation in both individuals. In relation we encounter synthesis, testing one's thesis against the antithesis of another and, if done properly (in respect for the other individual), leading to a conclusion that will become grounds for further synthesis and understanding.
Life is a constant development of understanding. As each person proceeds forward through time’s unfolding and winding annals, engaging whatever is immediate to her/his being, a palette of perceptions are tested against one another, leaving a base of individual assumptions. Such assumptions can be as simple as the sun will come up tomorrow or as elaborate as there must be a higher force, a cosmic deity; but the point is, such perceptions are subjective and unique to every individual. F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.” I firmly believe that in order to gain a fuller, more complete understanding, one must subject his/her mind to such mediated conflict, allowing personal beliefs to be tested and reformed in accordance with the universal truth we all seek to know. As a Christian, I also believe that this act is a crucial component of my faith. Fitzgerald's words align themselves directly with the teaching of Paul in Philippians 2 in which he states, "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed . . . continue to work out your faith with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose." By God and humanity itself, we are challenged to encounter and engage perspective, perfecting our understanding of truth and developing the universal spirit of humanity in accordance with the one true Spirit.
For these reasons, I have chosen to write. I write in order to humbly contribute to the development of humanity, glorifying God and others while seeking to also paradigmatically sanctify myself. Specifically for this blog, I intend to use the faculties and opportunities given to me to relay my perspective and present a forum in which people can bring proper antitheses to my theses, mutually testing our understandings and allowing us to be formed into a greater likeness through interaction.
There aren’t many things that I can assert with great certainty, but one conclusion I have come to is this: reality's vantages are limited, subjective, and fugitive. On this site, I invite you to capture the interpreatations offered by such vantages, encounter reality and speculate; let us synthesize and realize the richness of perspective.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Welcome!
